Where to Find a Honda Battery Warranty

The average car battery lasts between two and five years, after which point you will have to replace it. Unfortunately, a faulty battery can die much sooner, leaving you stuck in your driveway or a parking lot. If you drive a Honda vehicle, your Honda battery is covered under the manufacturer’s warranty for up to three years. But what about when that warranty expires?

An extended warranty can relieve the cost of parts after a mechanical breakdown. CARCHEX offers comprehensive coverage for all types of vehicles, including Honda, at competitive prices. Get a free quote from our auto insurance and warranty experts today.

What’s Covered Under the Honda Manufacturer’s Warranty?

The New Vehicle Limited Warranty by Honda covers all Honda parts, including the 12-volt battery, for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. It also includes the Limited Powertrain Warranty, which covers the vehicle powertrain (engine, transmission, and drive axle) for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Honda’s bumper-to-bumper warranty provides coverage for:

  • Repair or replacement for any part defective in material or workmanship
  • Repair or replacement of faulty batteries or key fobs and remotes original to the vehicle
  • Repair or replacement of faulty wiper blade inserts (only for the first six months)
  • Wheel balancing and tire alignment (only for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles)
  • Air conditioner refrigerant (only for the first two years or 24,000 miles)

In addition to your first battery, the Honda Battery Limited Warranty covers your replacement battery (except for Hybrid batteries) purchased at a Honda dealer for 100 months (just over eight years). If your battery needs replacement during the normal, three-year warranty period, your replacement battery will be covered in full, and you will receive a credit toward the purchase of another replacement battery for the remainder of the eight years.

This credit is based on the current-retail price and decreases over time. For example, you get 60% off during months 37 to 45 but only 5% off in months 96 to 100.

Do CPO Honda Vehicles Have the Same Coverage?

The Honda CPO Warranty covers certified pre-owned vehicles. This warranty includes:

  • 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
  • 12-month/12,000 mile non-powertrain warranty
  • Excludes: Honda batteries, brakes, clutches and the exhaust system

Note that there is no Honda battery warranty for CPO vehicles.

What About a Honda Extended Warranty?

Honda offers extended warranties of up to eight years or 120,000 miles with additional benefits, like 24/7 roadside assistance and Honda Care Sentinel oil change. Coverage ranges from powertrain to bumper-to-bumper protection (full coverage). Regular Honda batteries are excluded from coverage. However, the battery found in Honda hybrid vehicles is included.

How Much Does a Honda Battery Replacement Cost?

The cost of a Honda battery replacement can differ based on the Honda model you drive, as well as your individual mechanic’s prices for labor. A typical Honda Accord battery can cost between $177 and $186 with labor, and a Honda CR-V battery replacement is in that same ballpark.

A Honda battery warranty does not exist past the initial manufacturer’s warranty terms, but an extended warranty will cover other important parts of the vehicle.

Though an extended warranty may be pricier than the cost of a battery replacement, if your Honda battery is not malfunctioning because of poor driving or maintenance habits, it could be a sign of a larger issue with other vehicle components. Those repairs could cost you much more to fix, which can make an extended warranty more cost-effective.

Signs Your Honda Battery Is Dying

What are the signs that your Honda battery is dying?

  • The engine cranks slowly (or not at all).
  • The headlights are dimmed, or other electrical components, such as the radio or windshield wipers, don’t run normally.
  • The battery warning light on your dashboard turns on.
  • You may notice that your battery case is swollen.
  • The battery freezes in winter.
  • If you smell rotten eggs, it could be a sign that your battery has overcharged.

What Factors Shorten Battery Life?

Good habits can prolong the life of your car battery up to six years, but there are some factors out of your control—such as high humidity or extreme cold—that can shorten the life of your battery no matter how well you maintain it. They include:

  • Parasitic drain (vehicle components running after the car is turned off) caused by faulty electrical problems
  • Faulty charging system
  • Faulty alternator
  • Temperatures under 10°F and over 100°F
  • Corroded battery cables

How To Preserve Your Honda Battery

On the other hand, there are things you can do to give your battery a fighting chance.

  • Have your battery checked during routine maintenance.
  • Replace your battery every 3-4 years to avoid a breakdown.
  • Don’t take excessive short drives, as the battery puts out the most power when starting the car.
  • Avoid draining the battery by double checking that your headlights are off, your trunk is closed, and no other electronic systems are running.

Should You Get an Extended Warranty?

You can’t get an extended Honda battery warranty, but you can make sure that other vehicle components do not affect your battery. As previously mentioned, issues with your alternator, which recharges your car battery, can cost much more money in repairs or replacement. Suddenly, your small battery issue is a much bigger and more expensive problem.

In these cases, a vehicle service contract can keep more of that money in your pocket.

CARCHEX Extended Warranty Coverage

CARCHEX provides third-party extended vehicle warranties with five levels of coverage, from basic powertrain coverage to bumper-to-bumper plans that list only excluded items.

Extended warranty terms range from five to 10 years, so you will get long lasting coverage for pre-owned and new vehicles once the Honda new car warranty expires.

If you want a warranty that can cover the components that affect your Honda battery, then you may want to consider one of the comprehensive coverage tiers. We’ll detail them below.

Titanium

This is the most comprehensive coverage level provided by CARCHEX, as it covers all vehicle systems with the exception of a short list of excluded items.

Platinum

Platinum coverage is right between Gold and bumper-to-bumper or exclusionary coverage. It covers most car systems and components, which are listed in your contract and include:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Drive axle
  • Fuel delivery
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrical
  • Braking
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Heating/cooling
  • Enhanced electrical
  • Seals/gaskets

Gold

If your Honda has over 60,000 miles, then you’ll benefit from CARCHEX Gold coverage plans. While not a bumper-to-bumper plan, many major systems of your vehicle are still covered.

Specific components under the following systems are covered:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Drive axle
  • Fuel delivery
  • Air conditioning
  • Electrical
  • Braking
  • Steering
  • Seals/gaskets

What Is Excluded from CARCHEX Coverage?

As a CARCHEX customer, you’ll have access to sample contracts before you even choose a plan. These contracts are made available so that there are no surprises when you go to check if a part is covered under the plan.

Regardless of the level of coverage that you choose, there are common items excluded in all vehicle service contracts:

  • Repairs due to regular wear and tear
  • Repairs due to inclement weather
  • Repairs due to accidents
  • Repairs covered under the manufacturer’s warranty
  • Cosmetic repairs, such as chipped paint
  • Regular maintenance (oil changes, tire changes and alignment, new wiper blades, new brake pads, car battery, etc.)
  • Repairs due to personal modifications on the car

If you take good care of your vehicle, then you are more likely to be approved for coverage in the event of a part failure or breakdown.

Roadside Perks and Benefits

Factory warranties and factory extended warranties typically cover roadside assistance and other roadside benefits to help you through a breakdown. If your factory warranty and Honda battery warranty expires, you don’t have to worry about losing your roadside benefits, too.

CARCHEX also offers these benefits alongside all extended warranties.

CARCHEX benefits include:

  • 24/7 roadside assistance
  • Towing service
  • Rental car reimbursement
  • Emergency gas delivery
  • Trip interruption services
  • Battery jump service
  • Key lockout service

Rental car reimbursement and towing reimbursement are covered up to a certain amount. This is also true for trip interruption services, which may cover accommodation and meals for trips that are interrupted more than 100 miles from home.
