What does the Honda bumper-to-bumper warranty cover? In addition to a 5-year / 60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty (which covers the major parts that power the vehicle, like the engine and transmission), all new Honda vehicles come with a New Vehicle Limited Warranty, or what’s more commonly referred to as a bumper-to-bumper warranty. These are also known as exclusionary warranties, because they cover most car systems and parts with a short list of exceptions.

For three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, Honda bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage includes:

  • Repair or replacement for any part that’s defective in material or workmanship
  • Repair or replacement of a faulty 12-volt battery
  • Replacement batteries for key fobs and remotes (but only for the first 6 months)
  • Repair or replacement of faulty wiper blade inserts (but only for the first 6 months)
  • Wheel balancing and tire alignment (but only for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles)
  • Air conditioner refrigerant (but only for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles)

Certified Pre-Owned Honda Warranty

For certified pre-owned (CPO) Honda vehicles, the Honda dealership usually offers a certified pre-owned warranty. CPO warranties are available only for vehicles purchased at a Honda dealership. This warranty provides:

  • 12 months / 12,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage
  • 7 years / 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage

Honda Bumper-to-Bumper Exclusions

Needless to say, neither the new or CPO warranty options are exactly comprehensive. The bumper-to-bumper warranty doesn’t begin to cover all of the parts between the bumpers.

Honda Powertrain vs. Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty

Your Honda new car warranty also includes a different type of warranty coverage, called a Limited Powertrain Warranty. It’s different from the bumper-to-bumper warranty in that it only covers the powertrain and related parts, and the coverage period is longer.

The Honda powertrain warranty last 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. It covers your car’s engine, transmission and transaxle, front-wheel-drive systems, and rear-wheel-drive systems.

  • Honda Care does not cover you for any part of the car that is not original to the vehicle or is not an American Honda authorized part.
